Cesana Torinese is situated at about 90 km far from Turin and at 10 km from the French border, in High Susa Valley, at the confluence of the torrents Ripa and Piccola Dora, at the foot of Mount Chaberton, at 1354 meters of altitude.
The origins of Cesana Torinese go back directly to the High Middle Ages. Thanks to its position, it always had an important strategic military role. The construction of roads made it a forced crossroad for the commerce.
Parallely to the commercial activity, the inhabitants were farmers and shepherds.
Today Cesana Torinese is always an important transit point towards other localities, but also an healthy seasonal or weekend or summer and winter tourism residence.
Cesana Torinese was one of the seats of the Olympic winter competitions of Turin 2006. In the hamlet of High Sansicario there is a track for the Super Giant and the Free Downhill Race of Alpine Ski, whereas in the area of the former Italsider colony there is the Biathlon track and finally in locality Pariol there are the Bob, Skeleton and Sledge tracks.
